Hoeklantaarn | Corner lantern - a photo on Flickriver

Op de hoek van de Schilders- en de Plaatsnijdersstraat staat één van de bekendste en meest sprekende art-nouveaupanden van Antwerpen. Het ensemble van vier woningen werd in 1901 ontworpen door architect F. Smet-Verhas voor "constructeur de navires" P. Roeis. Het beroep van deze welgestelde scheepsbouwer wordt uitgedragen in de gevel van het hoekpand, waar een balkon in de vorm van een schip is ingewerkt.
Het pand wordt in de volksmond "Het bootje" genoemd.

On the corner of Schildersstraat and Plaatnijdersstraat stands one of the best known and most striking Art Nouveau buildings in Antwerp. The ensemble of four houses was designed in 1901 by architect F. Smet-Verhas for "constructeur de navires" P. Roeis. The profession of this wealthy shipbuilder is propagated in the facade of the corner building, where a balcony in the shape of a ship has been incorporated.
The building is popularly called "The boat".
