once upon a time... (Opfersteine, Juhöhe)

            In the western part of the Geo-Nature Park Bergstraße-Odenwald, deep rock determines the landscape, the so-called Weschnitzpluton. Most of it consists of granodiorite, a roughly 330 million years old, with the granite related rock. Through weathering processes, the stones on the hills and in valleys over millions of years were ground round by the erosion. Here and there, traces of work on boulders remind us that the stones were also used economically. In addition, the side surfaces of the stones are crossed by deep furrows. The bowls are said to have been created by man for sacrifices. At least that's how the old legends and stories from the region tell us.
Im Weschnitztal und dessen nordwestlichen Höhenzügen bestimmt der "Weschnitzpluton" die Landschaft, ein mit dem Granit verwandtes 330 Mio Jahre altes Tiefengestein, das, wo es an die Oberfläche geriet, durch Verwitterungsprozesse in viele Formen geschliffen wurde. Es entstanden z.T. markante Formen wie an den "Opfersteinen", auf der Juhöhe, von denen die Sage erzählt, dass hier zu vorchristlicher Zeit kultische Handlungen begangen wurden.  Der Teufel habe die tiefen Rillen in die Seitenfläche des Steines gekratzt.
