            Zevenbergen Castle

The long history of Zevenbergen Castle starts at the end of the 13th century. For many centuries, noble families with their colourful histories lived there. The castle passes from generation to generation through inheritance and thus stands the test of time. 

In 1914, at the beginning of the First World War, it was destroyed.

From 1934, an annex is inhabited by Valentine de Gilman, the sole heiress. Valentine is taken care of by the sisters of the Convent of Bethlehem in a difficult period.  In 1953, in gratitude, she donated part of her property, the domain of the castle and adjacent woods, to the sisters.
In 1968 the original castle was demolished and replaced by new buildings. 

The nuns of the Convent of Bethlehem left the castle in 2020.  Zevenbergen Castle is currently still used as a reflection centre.

De lange geschiedenis van kasteel Zevenbergen begint einde 13de eeuw. Vele eeuwen wonen er adellijke  families met hun kleurrijke geschiedenissen. Het kasteel gaat door erfenis over van generatie op generatie en doorstaat zo de tand des tijds. 

In 1914, bij het begin van de Eerste Wereldoorlog, wordt het  verwoest.

Vanaf 1934 is een bijgebouw bewoond door Valentine de Gilman, de enige erfgename. Valentine wordt in een moeilijke periode opgevangen door de zusters van het Convent van Betlehem.  Uit erkentelijkheid schenkt zij in 1953 een deel van haar bezit, het domein van het kasteel en aanpalende bossen, aan de zusters.

In 1968 wordt het oorspronkelijk kasteel gesloopt en vervangen door nieuwe gebouwen. 

De zusters van het Convent van Betlehem verlieten het kasteel in 2020.  Kasteel Zevenbergen wordt momenteel nog steeds gebruikt als bezinningscentrum.
