Der Merseburger Dom ist einer der bedeutendsten Kathedralbauten Deutschlands und war Lieblingsort des einzigen heiliggesprochenen Kaiserpaars, Heinrich II. und Kunigunde. Einer der berühmtesten Chronisten des Mittelalters, Bischof Thietmar von Merseburg, legte 1015 den Grundstein zum Bau der Kathedrale. Besonders bemerkenswert ist die Ladegast-Orgel, sie gehört zu den größten und klangschönsten romantischen Orgeln in ganz Deutschland.
