Iceland Day 8 - Blue Lagoon - a photo on Flickriver

Today was our last one in Iceland, and after all the excitement from the past week we decided to take it slow. And so we stayed in Reykjavik where we visited the well known Blue Lagoon and the city centre itself. Unfortunately we couldn’t get in the geothermal spa itself, because this turned out to be nearly impossible without making a reservation well in advance. But luckily the visit wasn’t for nothing, as the landscape around the spa is also very special and a real pleasure to walk through. Although it is a man-made lagoon, a byproduct of the geothermal power station nearby, the colours are so amazing. The water’s milky blue shade is due to its high silica content, which is also visible as a white edge on the dark rocks.

With the photography however, I was struggling a bit this day. Once I truly realised this was the last day and felt the fulfilment from the last week, even the slightest bit of adrenaline was removed from my system and suddenly I felt really exhausted. Without that needed sharp eye I couldn’t find much compositions and sometimes even didn’t bother at all to get my gear out of the bag. But no regrets, just a nice confirmation that this trip was all I had hoped for. Also I did make two shots I’m pleased with this day after all, and this more intimate photograph from the Blue Lagoon is one of them.
