La technique du filet dormant - a photo on Flickriver

            Uppeveli (Sri-Lanka) - Cette technique de pêche artisanale au filet est pratiquée à travers le monde. Elle est appelée de technique « dormante » car elle ne nécessite aucune action du pêcheur ou du navire. Sauf pour poser et remonter le filet.
Le bateau part à deux-cents ou trois-cents mètres du rivage pour immerger le filet à la vertivale, qui est positionné en « U ». On attend quelques heures que le poisson poussé par la marée montante se prennent dans les mailles. Pour relever les filets sur la plage, il faut entre vingt et trente individus pour former une chaine humaine. Chaque personne qui aura aidé à la manœuvre, sera rémunéré en poissons.

The sleeping net technique

Uppeveli (Sri Lanka) - This artisanal net fishing technique is practiced throughout the world. It is called a “dormant” technique because it requires no action from the fisherman or the vessel. Except to set and raise the net.
The boat leaves two or three hundred meters from the shore to immerse the net vertically, which is positioned in a "U". We wait a few hours for the fish pushed by the rising tide to get stuck in the mesh. To raise the nets on the beach, it takes between twenty and thirty individuals to form a human chain.
