Juvenile Tahoe sucker in the Upper Truckee River

            The Upper Truckee River, by the airport in South Lake Tahoe, provides habitat supporting many juvenile minnows and suckers.  This year, because of drought-related low flows, the temperatures are a bit warmer than normal.  Little suckers and minnows are abundant, but small trout are few and far between.  This Tahoe sucker was spawned this spring and has already grown to about 2 inches in size by mid July.  Adult males grow to 12-14 inches in size and adult females can grow to be well over 20 inches.
