Frozen - Nerstrand Big Woods State Park

            I liked the shapes of the ice and the contrast to the warm colored limestone.

Yesterday afternoon I visited Nerstrand Big Woods State Park to capture some Winter season images of Prairie Creek and Hidden Falls. Fog from warm temperatures, calm winds, and recent snow, which added some freshness to the landscape, fueled my eagerness to see what was in store for the outing.  I had hoped for fog and some open water, but found flat light and only small spots away from the falls free of ice.

After focusing on the main falls I worked my way downstream to the sound of running water and found the source to be this mini falls where a spring fed stream cascades over the edge of the limestone bedrock. The sound was echoed and amplified by this frozen facade with nice shapes dusted by fresh snow.
