The Dombrovskis Legacy - a photo on Flickriver

Peter Dombrovskis' most famous picture is, "Morning Mist, Rock Island Bend, Franklin River". nla.gov.au/nla.obj-147241885/view

We see it here, the second photograph from the left. This photo is generally regarded to have been the most powerful weapon to persuade the Australian people and the new Hawke government in 1982, to overrule the Tasmanian government and stop the building of the Dam that would have destroyed much of the precious Gordon River environment.

Anyone who saw this photograph knew that a precious natural environment would be destroyed forever if the dam went ahead. Peter understood it as much as anyone, having witnessed Olegas Truchanas' failed attempts to save the original Lake Pedder - with its gorgeous pink quartz beach - from being inundated. Peter was not about to let his mentor's legacy disappear this time as well.
