MAYBACH Spezialrennwagen 1920er

Im Gegensatz zu Mercedes hat Maybach im Motorsport nie eine besondere Rolle gespielt. Durch den Einsatz einiger Privatleute wurde der Name Maybach jedoch in den 1920er Jahren zu einem Begriff in einer ganz speziellen Kategorie des Automobilsports, nämlich den Rekordfahrten über kurze Distanzen. Hierzu wurden riesige Maybach-Zeppelinmotoren in Personenwagen- Chassis eingebaut und mit mächtigen Getrieben versehen.

Das hier gezeigte Exponat ist typisch für diese Art von Fahrzeug. Der 6-Zylinder-Motor hat einen Hubraum von 23 Litern und leistet 300 PS. Die endlos lang wirkende Motorhaube verhindert, dass das Fahrzeug beim Beschleunigen vorne abhebt. Der Spezialrennwagen kann somit durchaus als Vorläufer der heutigen Dragster angesehen werden. Die Spitzengeschwindigkeit des außergewöhnlichen Gefährts liegt bei über 160 km/h, die bei einer Umdrehungszahl des Motors von nur 1.050 Upm erreicht werden.
