Der ab 1914 produzierte Typ 28/95 PS begründete in der Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft die Tradition besonders exklusiver und leistungsstarker Spitzen-Automobile. Innerhalb dieser Kategorie entspricht er jedoch weniger dem Typus des ausgesprochenen Repräsentationswagens, sondern ist stattdessen in die Ahnenreihe der Sportwagenmodelle einzuordnen - wie nach ihm das Modell K, die Typen S, SS, SSK und SSKL sowie die Kompressormodelle 500 K und 540 K.
