Protecting (mantling) the prey - a photo on Flickriver

Many birds of prey, including hawks and falcons, practice mantling after a kill. It lays its spread wings and tail over the prey. On the one hand, it is supposed to block competitors from seeing the prey, but it can also be understood as a threatening gesture. When eating, everyone is next to himself :-) 

Wenn der Falke ein Beutetier geschlagen hat sieht man das sogenannte Manteln. Dabei legt er seine abgespreizten Flügel und den  Schwanz über die Beute. 
Es soll zum Einen Konkurrenten die Sicht auf die Beute versperren, kann aber auch als Drohgebärde verstanden werden. 
Beim Fressen ist sich jeder selbst der Nächste :-)
