Les frères Levy sortaient en général des boites de 6 ou 10 exemplaires stéréoscopiques... On, il fait exception pour cette série ? Il est clair qu’une fois plus ou moins effacé la teinte de l’albumine, il ne reste plus grand-chose pour en faire un anaglyphe…! Même actrices et petite pièce, d’où seront fabriquées toutes ces séries destinées à être vendu pendant les deux très rapprochées exposition universelle de Paris. Pour la qualité ; passer votre chemin, et ce n’est pas avec leur CPA que L.L. vont se rattraper...

"Moyse Léon et Isaac dit Georges Lévy débutent comme assistants au sein du studio photographique parisien Ferrier-Soulier sous le Second Empire. Ils fondent leur propre studio dès 1864 et vendent des tirages sur papier albuminé, principalement des vues stéréoscopiques, sous la signature Léon et Lévy "L. L.". La firme Léon & Lévy participe à l'Exposition Universelle de 1867 où elle remporte la Grande médaille d'or de l'Empereur. En 1874, le studio Léon et Lévy devient J. Lévy et Cie , Isaac Georges Levy étant seul directeur de la société à partir de cette date. À l'arrivée des deux fils de Georges Lévy en 1895, Ernest et Lucien, la société prend de l'ampleur et devient Lévy & fils, les œuvres conservent de fait la signature "L. L.". Cette firme photographique a une activité intense, éditant des tirages vendus à l'unité, des albums compilant des photographies de voyages (Espagne, Portugal, Maroc, Amérique) ainsi que des cartes postales, le tout entre 1864 et 1917, date à laquelle ils cessent leurs activités. La collection Léon et Lévy a été rachetée en 1970 par l'Agence Roger-Viollet."

The Levy brothers usually produced boxes of 6 or 10 stereoscopic copies... Did they make an exception for this series? Clearly, once the albumen tint has been more or less erased, there's not much left to make an anaglyph...! The same actresses and the same small room, from which all these series will be manufactured and sold at the two very close Paris World Fairs. As for quality, you'll have to pass, and L.L. won't be making up for it with their CPA...

“Moyse Léon and Isaac dit Georges Lévy started out as assistants in the Parisian photographic studio Ferrier-Soulier during the Second Empire. They set up their own studio in 1864, selling albumen prints, mainly stereoscopic views, under the Léon et Lévy “L. L.”. Léon & Lévy took part in the 1867 Exposition Universelle, winning the Emperor's Great Gold Medal. In 1874, the studio Léon et Lévy became J. Lévy et Cie, with Isaac Georges Levy as sole director. With the arrival of Georges Lévy's two sons, Ernest and Lucien, in 1895, the company expanded and became Lévy & fils, with works retaining the “L. L.”. This photographic firm was very active, publishing single prints, albums compiling travel photographs (Spain, Portugal, Morocco, America) and postcards, all between 1864 and 1917, when they ceased operations. The Léon et Lévy collection was bought by Agence Roger-Viollet in 1970.”
