Hospital de la Sant Pau by Lluís Domènech i Montaner in Barcelona

            I first went to Barcelona in 1982 and was struck by its wonderful example’s of modernist architecture, Gaudi’s work of course was the most well known..but there were other interesting architects . However the building that I was most struck by was the incredible Hospital de la Sant Pau. I had never seen a hospital before that in both its exterior and interior was a brilliant work of art. In 1982 it was still a busy hospital in the heart of Barcelona and it only closed in 2009. This shot is a small detail of part of the exterior
 
The former Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in the neighborhood of El Guinardó, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, is a complex built between 1901 and 1930, designed by the Catalan modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Together with Palau de la Música Catalana, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was a fully functioning hospital until June 2009, it is currently undergoing restoration for use as a museum and cultural center. As of December 2013 there are still tours of the hospital being given several times a day.
