Jeffreys of Goldenhill. - a photo on Flickriver

            For some time now, I've been rather envious of those who possessed the ability to digitally colour black & white photographs. That's not to say thare is anything wrong with the latter, but the idea of being able to breath new life into them has always tickled my fancy. For me, colouring those images hitherto, meant printing them at A4, physically colouring them with water colours or similar, then re-scanning them. Now if one thing good has come from the Covid debacle its that of having 'spare' time at weekends and the ability to perhaps learn something new. Now I know the above effort isn't perfect, but this is one of the first handful of the 'teach myself new computing stuff' offerings. The damage in the foreground is on the negative though I could improve that with effort, and the tones of the brown and cream are slightly out, but that's just tweaking. Beyond that, I have to confess to being quite pleased with it.
The coach was Duple Vega petrol engined Bedford SB, UNT 132 which had been new to Salopia. It served with Jeffreys for many a year and was one of the final Petrol (Gasolene) powered PSVs left in service in North Staffordshire when the original of this photo was taken in 1980. The Jeffreys business was to close shortly afterwards when the owners opted for retirement rather than re-location when threatened with compulsory purchase of its premises by the local authority. The business as a transport provider was one of the longest standing in North Staffordshire having its origins back in the 1860s.
