Tamatekapua Meeting House - a photo on Flickriver

            The carved Meeting House Tamatekapua  (Te Papaiouru Marae),  Rotorua, New Zealand. Named after the Paramount Chief who led the Te Arawa canoe on the great migration of Māori from Polynesia to New Zealand around 1350. The Meeting House is one of the better examples of traditional Māori architecture in New Zealand. The carved figure at the top of the gable is Chief Tamatekapua, a most famous ancestral hero of the Māori people. The Meeting House first hosted Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1954 followed in more recent years by other members of the British Royal Family.
