The sense of freedom - a photo on Flickriver

            It's funny, but all my visits to the beach have centred around being there at low tide. Mostly because any shells would be uncovered, but also while I love the beach, I'm a bit scared of the sea.

But on my last visit I started looking at the old tide lines and driftwood debris at the base of the sand dunes and realised that the tide must sometimes come right up to them. And I suddenly wanted to see the beach at high tide.  

So I checked the tide charts and waited until the day I could get out on a high high tide (big high tide?). And that day was yesterday! It wasn't as high as I'd hoped but it was much higher than I'd seen it before, and a nice day. And there were some great clouds and good light. 

As it was a warm autumn Sunday, with the high tide in the middle of the day, I definitely didn't have the beach to myself this time. So you're going to see some more silhouette shots I'm afraid ;-)

P.S. I prefer to have people as silhouettes to protect the innocent. And only my shoes and trousers were harmed during the afternoon photoshoot (wet to the knees trying to get some shots showing how far up the beach the water came. Luckily the water was almost warm).
