Pelarne Church [Explored] - a photo on Flickriver

The church is one of the oldest wooden churches in Sweden and built of lying timber. It is one of the few that are black - the wood shingle cladding is painted with tar. The church is probably built in the beginning of the 1200s. Notice the five-sided entrance building. The belfry was built at the end of the 1600s.
Pelarne congregation is situated in Vimmerby municipality and is a part of Linköping diocese (Swedish: stift).

In 1905 Samuel August and Hanna were married in the church and two years later their daughter was born, subsequently the author of several children's book series, Astrid Lindgren.
