The Million Miler

In 1998, this P1800 owned by Irv Gordon (1940–2018) was certified as the highest mileage private vehicle driven by the original owner in non-commercial service (by The Guinness Book of World Records). Gordon purchased his P1800 in 1966 from a neighborhood Volvo dealership. His 125-mile daily commute to and from work as a science teacher, his passion for driving and his meticulous care for his car enabled him to clock the miles. He drove on Route 66 and just about every other picturesque highway in the United States. In 2002 Gordon clocked his historic two millionth mile in his Volvo P1800 while driving down Times Square in New York. In 2018 the milage had exceeded 3.25 million miles (over 5.23 million km).

The Volvo P1800 (pronounced eighteen-hundred) was manufactured between 1961 and 1973. The design work was done by Pelle Pettersson, Sweden, at the Italian Carrozzeria Frua.
The Volvo P1800 received prominence in the early 1960s when a white 1962 Volvo P1800 was driven by the character Simon Templar (the future James Bond actor Roger Moore) in the TV series The Saint (1962–1969). The car became intimately linked to the show and helped raise Volvo's profile at the time. Roger Moore actually purchased a P1800 of his own, in the same white color as the TV car, and so was seen driving the Volvo both on-screen and around the roads of Britain.

One part of the building "World of Volvo" is a museum - the Volvo history of cars, trucks and buses since the very first Volvo left the factory in Gothenburg in 1927. Another part is a big exhibition about the present and the future, with funny activities in connection with Volvo, to do for the whole family. There is also a restaurant and a café.
