MEXICO, Yucatán, Chichén Itzá, Kriegertempel , 19048/11708

            Der wegen seiner Reliefs (die sich gleich auch an anderen Stellen von Chichén Itzá finden) so genannte Kriegertempel ist eine die große Plattform auf ihrer Ostseite beherrschende Konstruktion. Das Gebäude besteht aus einem Pyramidensockel mit vier Stufen und einer großen oberen Fläche, die ungefähr zur Hälfte von dem eigentlichen Tempelgebäude eingenommen wird. Dieses ist ganz an die hintere Kante gerückt, so dass davor ein größerer freier Raum entsteht. 
 
Bemalter Pfeiler aus der ersten Bauphase
Die oberste Plattform des Tempels erreicht man über eine Treppe, die ursprünglich aus der der Tempelpyramide vorgelagerten Säulenhalle erreicht wurde. Zwei etwas erhöht stehende Pfeiler und Maueransätze auf den Seiten zeigen, dass das Dach der Säulenhalle an der Treppe etwas höher hinaufreichte. Die Treppe ist für Besucher gesperrt.
