            SYRIEN-Apamea,
Apamea liegt am Ufer des Flusses Orontes, 55 km nordöstlich von Hama oberhalb des Ghab-Tals, einer der fruchtbarsten Gegenden Syriens. Die Ruinenstätte liegt heute sehr abgeschieden. Es gibt kein spektakuläres gut erhaltenes Theater wie in Bosra, keine Tempel wie in Baalbek; dennoch kann sich kaum jemand, der die schier endlose Kollonade entlanggeht, dem Zauber der einzigartigen antiken Stätte entziehen, wenn man sich vergegenwärtigt: Früher befand sich hier eine blühende Metropole.
