            My husband Richard provides this sad tribute to his sister, who was murdered on July 28 2020.

"My sweet sister Betty tragically died in her home in Port Orange,  Florida. Her death was ruled a homicide and the suspect is behind bars.  If you have any friends  in east central Florida, especially the Daytona Beach area, please share with them. Anyone who has any information that can help in the case can call the Port Orange Florida Police Department at 386-506-5800.
This picture of Betty  and me was taken some time ago in the backyard of her home in Port Orange. Betty taught middle school special education for 46 years. She was a great advocate for individuals with special needs.  A teacher friend of Betty’s called me the other day and relayed a story  I did not know about.  There was a student in one of her classes who attended classes infrequently, was withdrawn, and made fun of by other students.  She reached out and found out the student was embarrassed to attend school because he only had one set of clothes. Betty went shopping and out of her personal funds bought 5 or 6 sets of clothes and delivered them to his home.  His then attended class regularly with a completely changed attitude about learning and had a successful school year.
Betty also volunteered at the assisted living facility where our mom and aunt were for many years. There she decorated, planned parties, arranged for entertainment, put flowers on the dining room tables.  She continued to volunteer there even after both our mom and aunt had passed away.
I could go on and on about what a special person Betty was.  There will be no public memorial service due to COVID-19.  School administrators, fellow teachers and her friends have reached out as to what they could do to memorialize her.  The one thing that came to my mind that would be fitting was contributions to Special Olympics. If anyone is so inclined, please make your contribution to your state’s chapter, and in memory of Betty. I know she would approve of that.
Rest in Peace, sweet Betty.  The world has lost an incredible lady with a heart of gold."
