            The autumn of 2010 has been quite a surprise in the New York area. After a severe summer drought combined with blistering heat, few of us were expecting the fall foliage season to be very colorful...NOT!!
I love visiting Long Island's various arboretums in October; most are former estates of the wealthy which have been gifted to the state or local governments so that all might share their beauty. Many of these estate owners decorated their expansive gardens with exotic trees and plantings which bloom with dazzling colors in late October and early November. 
The following series of images were all taken in local arboretums during the 2010 fall season. While processed in Photoshop, I want to emphasize that the colors displayed are as nature created them; they haven't been enhanced in post processing and I made every attempt to display them exactly as I was fortunate enough to view them personally.
