The Southern White-faced Owl or Southern White-faced Scops-owl (Ptilopsis granti) is a fairly small owl in the family Strigidae. 
The range of the Southern White-faced Owl is restricted to the southern half of Africa, extending from Gabon eastwards to southern Kenya and southwards to Namibia and northern South Africa. It inhabits savanna and dry woodland.
It is usually seen alone or in pairs. It is 22-28 cm long and weighs 185-275 gr. The upperparts are grey with dark streaks and there are white spots on the scapular feathers. The underparts are whitish with dark streaks. The face is white with a black border and black around the large orange-red to red eyes, and the bill is pale creamy-horn. The head has two short "ear" tufts with black tips.
Southern White-faced Owls feed on large insects, spiders, scorpions, small birds, reptiles and small mammals. This owl hunts from a perch, dropping down and gliding low over the ground before swooping up to a new perch. Prey are mostly taken from the ground or from trees, held with the powerful talons and torn apart with the bill. The Southern White-faced Owl was formerly regarded as a subspecies of the Northern White-faced Owl (Ptilopsis leucopsis) but the two are now commonly treated as separate species. The Southern White and Northern White-faced Owl look alike, except the Northern White-faced Owl is usually paler and browner with reduced streaking below.

De zuidelijke witwang dwergooruil of zuiderse witwanguil (Ptilopsis granti) is een vrij kleine uil in de familie Strigidae, de echte uilen. Het soort is inheems in de zuidelijke helft van Afrika, van Gabon naar het oosten tot het zuiden van Kenia en in zuidelijke richting tot in Namibië en het noorden van Zuid-Afrika. 
Het uiltje leeft op de savanne en in droge bossen. 
De witwanguil wordt meestal alleen of in paren aangetroffen.
Het is 22 à 28 cm lang en weegt 185 à 275 gr. De vrouwtjes zijn meestal het grootst. De bovenzijde is grijs met donkere strepen. De onderzijde is witachtig met donkere strepen. Het gezicht is wit met een zwarte rand en zwart rond de grote oranje-rood tot rode ogen, en de snavel is bleek crème. De vogel heeft korte oortjes.
Zuidelijke witwanguilen voeden zich met grote insecten, spinnen, schorpioenen, kleine vogels, reptielen en kleine zoogdieren. 
Deze uil jaagt vanaf een hoge plek, valt naar beneden en glijdt laag over de grond. 
De zuidelijke witwanguil werd vroeger beschouwd als een ondersoort van de noordelijke witwanguil (Ptilopsis leucopsis), maar de soorten worden nu algemeen gezien als twee afzonderlijke soorten. De zuidelijke witwanguil en de noordelijke witwanguil lijken sterk op elkaar. De noordelijke witwanguil is meestal lichter en wat bruiner van kleur en heeft minder strepen aan de onderzijde..
