66 167 hauling 3 sisters on the N&CR line at Gelt.

            Although some Network Rail weekend engineering works have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic other programmed works are still going ahead. With the Easter weekend traditionally a window in the railway calendar for taking four day line possessions to maximize the work able to be carried out, this Easter was no exception. Motive power for engineers trains originating from the large LDC (Local Distribution Centre) at Carlisle Kingmoor Yard are thus brought in from a wide area now since the cessation of the coal traffic routed via Carlisle in 2015. Freightliner tend to send engines from Crewe, GBRF from Tyne Dock and DB Cargo from either Warrington or Tees Yard.
The raft of locos seen here between Gelt Viaduct and Cowrans Cutting on the Newcastle & Carlisle Railway destined for engineers trains out of Carlisle are 66 167 hauling 66 102, 66 116 and 66 012. The ensemble is running as 0G02 14.37 Tees Yard to Kingmoor Yard.
