Berlin bus stop - Omnibus Haltestelle : c.1937

            This is a relatively widely reproduced photograph and it appeared in my "historic signs" files when I worked for London Underground. It is possible that is was one acquired by London Transport during the 1930s when, through visits abroad and by information exchanges with other transport operators, they kept abreast of latest trends and ideas in the fields of architecture, publicity and design. 

It shows a typical Berlin bus stop post and flag, the yellow enamel flag looking remarkably semaphore signal arm style, became, I understand, an effective national standard for decades. The picture was possibly taken by BVG, the city's transport authority.
