Baby Dragon Dreams of Flying - a photo on Flickriver

            Deep in the heart of the enchanted forest, where it is safe, Baby Dragon sits in his nest in a clearing full of flowers, waiting for Mummy Dragon to come home with his dinner.  Whilst he waits, he watches the butterflies and dragonflies sweep about in the air around him.  He is excited because he has just worked out that he has wings like his flying insect friends.  However, he hasn’t worked out quite how to use them yet, so for now he must satisfy himself with dreaming of flying.

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” for the 18th of June is “small animals with wings”.  As soon as I read the theme, I thought of my cute little pink baby dragon, who at 4 centimetres in height is certainly a small animal with wings.  I don’t need any excuse to use him!  Then I remembered I had some pretty butterflies and dragonflies in my Playmobil collection which also meet the theme, and are perhaps more traditional small animals with wings.  Thus I came up with this scene, which I hope will make you smile.

Playmobil is a line of toys produced by the Brandstätter Group, headquartered in Zirndorf, Germany.  Production began in 1974.  Playmobil began to be sold worldwide in 1975, and by 2009, approximately 2.2 billion Playmobil figures had been sold.  The signature Playmobil toy is a 7.5 cm tall human figure with a particular smiling face.  A wide range of accessories, buildings and vehicles, as well as many sorts of animals, are also part of the Playmobil line.  Playmobil toys are produced in themed series of sets as well as individual special figures and playsets.  New products and product lines developed by a 50-strong development team are introduced frequently, and older sets are discontinued.  Promotional and one-off products are sometimes produced in very limited quantities. These practices have helped give rise to a sizeable community of collectors.
