TRIPLE COMPOSITE: Christmas Star Conjunction. Sunset+moon+conjunction.

            Shot from Mahoney Park in Lincoln, NE. I tried shooting just the conjunction and all I got was fuzzy. I had been there since before sunset so I shot several sunsets as I began thinking in terms of doing a composite instead of a straight shot. I was surprised that from Lincoln NE the two were overlapped!

The half-moon was up, begging to be shot, and even though my several shots of the planets were disappointing, I used them as a template. I increased the brightness on Jupiter. Saturn was little more than a faint ring overlapping and behind so I filled it with some light gray, then painted in some faint glow around both which is barely visible but I thought looked better than the cleaner versions even though that was how they actually looked in my finder. The sky was also much brighter making it tough to get good separation. 

So it's a triple composite. The moon was off to my left so I cheated it over here and downsized it so it would look proportional. The planetary conjunction was shot about where you see it but much later than this base sunset shot that was made at 5:00 PM CST. The conjunction was last, a little after 6:00. It was cold!
