2011 Ferrari 150° Italia

            Pictured is a 2011 Ferrari 150° Italia Grand Prix Car. The car is painted in 2015 Ferrari livery which featured on the SF15-T.

It was driven in 2011 by double Formula 1 World Champion Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. 

After narrowly missing out on the World Drivers Championship in 2010 Ferrari went into 2011 with high expectations. However, 2011 marked the start of the Red Bull domination that would encapsulate Formula 1 for the next couple of years and Ferrari were left fighting for the scraps.

The '150° Italia' designation was the third name that this car had in a short space of time. When launched, the car was called the 'F150' which led Ford to threaten legal action as they hold the trademark to the name (understandable as you could see how an F1 car and a pick-up truck could be confused for one another!).

The name was changed to '150th Italia' and then to the Italian style '150° Italia' to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification.

The car finished on the podium a total of nine occasion during the season with Alonso at the wheel. After three low-key outings at the start of the year Alonso finished the Turkish Grand Prix in third position. He shot from fourth on the grid to lead the first ten laps of his home race in Spain before falling down the order to finish a lapped fifth.

The next round in Monaco saw the Spaniard chase eventual race winner Sebastian Vettel home, finishing just 1.2 seconds behind the German. After crashing out of the Canadian Grand Prix Alonso took another runner-up spot in the European Grand Prix at Valencia.

For the British Grand Prix two weeks later a slight alteration to the technicaal regulations saw the Red Bull and McLaren teams pegged back and the Ferrari came to life. A race long battle with Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel ended with Alonso passing the reigning World Champion during a pit stop and he held the lead to the end to score Ferrari's first and only victory of the season, clinching fastest lap in the process.

For the rest of the season results were solid if unspectacular. Alonso finished second in Germany, third in Hungary, fourth in Belgium, third in Italy and fourth in Singapore. He ran Jenson Button a close second in Japan before finishing fifth in Korea, third in India, second in Abu Dhabi and fourth in the season finale in Brazil.

Felipe Massa had a much tougher season in the second car. The Brazilian would score two fastest laps during the year but would fail to finish a single race on the podium for the first time in his Ferrari career. 

His best results of the season would be a handful of fifth positions in Malaysia, Europe, Britain, Germany, Abu Dhabi and the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix.

At the end of the season, the Ferrari drivers would finish fourth (Alonso) and sixth (Massa) in the championship, Ferrari as third best constructor.

The actual 2015 version was driven by four-times World Champion Sebastian Vettel and 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen. After a winless 2014 season Ferrari would win three Grands Prix during the year with Vettel at the wheel to finish second in the Constructors Championship.
