Morris engine suppliers White and Poppe were bought by Dennis in 1919 and the 11.9hp was no longer available from Continental. So Morris approached the Coventry branch of Hotchkiss who agreed to produce slightly modified versions of the Continental engine and gearbox for Morris. Who later aquired Hotchkiss (Coventry) in 1923,

By 1921 Morris had produced a backlog of Cowley's leading to sales manager Hugh Wordsworth Grey slashing their price in February, which saw a massive sales boom. Further price reductions led to the Cowley becoming Britain's most popular car.
