Blue-black Grassquit - a photo on Flickriver

Outside of the Museo Larco in Lima, Peru, this sparrow-sized bird sat at the very top of a tall cactus. He would flitter straight up into the air about ten feet, then flutter back down to the top of the cactus again, twittering away. Repeat. Definitely trying to attract the eye of the lady grassquit! The Larco Museum was also interesting. It’s in an 18th-century vice-royal building built over a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid and contains a chronological display of 4,000 years of Peruvian pre-Columbian art. It’s well known for its gallery of pre-Columbian erotic pottery. Of course I didn’t look at that! :) Texture by Tim_In_Ohio.
