Cairnburgh Castle (6) - a photo on Flickriver

            Nearly there!

The Treshnish Isles consist entirely of basaltic lava flows, the vertical sides of which, as we saw at Dun Haunn, need very little enhancement to make an extremely secure fortification.  The islands, seen here from their north-east end, stretch away in a six and a half mile long chain.  The main islands are Cairn na Burgh Beg and More (little and big), on both of which there are castle remains, then Fladda, followed, after a host of small islands and skerries, by Lunga where the Puffin colony is and finally Dutchman's Cap - named for obvious reasons!  

You can see a couple of tourist boats beside Lunga, one of which probably belongs to the bloke that told me it was going to be too rough to land me here today!!!!!  As you can see, it's as flat as the proverbial mill-pond, the bugger just didn't want to do it!
