PAPAVER RHOEAS.

I papaveri sono usati per decorare le uova pasquali in Ucraina, mentre in Russia sono presi come termine di paragone con la bellezza fugace della gioventù. I papaveri, come poche altre piante, riuniscono in sé piacevolezza ornamentale, grazia rustica e pregnanza simbolica, il tutto dovuto all’essenza stessa di questi fiori, che tutto il mondo conosce grazie alla ricchezza del genere che li comprende. Abituati all’invadenza del comunissimo “rosolaccio” (Papaver rhoeas), forse siamo portati a credere che non vi siano altri papaveri: invece sbagliamo, perché sulla terra vivono ben 70 specie diverse, senza contare altri generi molto simili – come, ad esempio, l’americano e impronunziabile Eschscholzia – con cui si toccano le 250 unità.
