            LAGERSTROEMIA. LILLA' DELLE INDIE

Arbusto o piccolo albero a foglia caduca, originario dell'Asia, questa pianta può raggiungere i 7-10 metri di altezza. Il fusto è eretto e sottile, spesso la pianta sviluppa più tronchi paralleli con corteccia chiara, liscia, che generalmente tende a sfogliarsi con l'età. La chioma della lagerstroemia è tondeggiante, allargata, non molto densa con foglie ovali, allungate, di colore verde scuro, che divengono aranciate in autunno, prima di cadere.
In estate all'apice dei rami le Lagerstroemia indica producono lunghe pannocchie di fiori di colore bianco, rosato o lilla. Questi piccoli alberi sono molto diffusi nei giardini, ed anche nelle alberature stradali; durante l'inverno la pianta si spoglia completamente ed è una tra le ultime piante a germogliare in primavera.
