Old Man of Storr - a photo on Flickriver

Old Man of Storr

            I've had several goes at this often photographed scene in colour but this is the first time I've tried  B&W. The colour version wasn't anything special in the bright light but, in my opinion, converting to B&W has improved it quite a bit. The version I prefer is this rather contrasty  treatment. It reminds me of the effect I used to get with a red filter in the days of film photography

The camera I used was my Leica M-E with the 50mm f2.8 Elmar lens and as a result it has been cropped quite a bit top and bottom. If I'm not going out specifically for photography it's so handy taking the Leica as I can get the camera and five lenses in a very small camera bag. (15mm, 35mm, 50mm, 90mm and 135mm). Of these lenses the one I use least often is the Zeiss 35mm f2.8. It's a fantastic lens but I generally prefer to go longer or shorter. I would quite like a lens somewhere between 35mm and 15mm. The camera has frame lines for 28mm but my preference would be for 21mm or 24mm. which would mean another separate finder.
