Athletes LX – Training for Wrestling

            Two athletes training in “palaestra”.  “Palaestra” takes its name from the ancient Greek word for wrestling, “pale”. The athletes are named: Thodis and Chairippos, both are qualified as “fair” youths,  «ΘΩΔΙΣ ΚΑΛΟΣ» - «ΧΑΙΡΙΠΠΟΣ ΚΑΛΟΣ». The names are written to right and left of the two athletes. 
Clothes suspended on the walls and some tools used in other sports disciplines complete the scene: a pick-ax for softening the earth in long jump competitions, bags for disks. This scene gives us an image of everyday education of teens in "gymnasia", where, sports activities were considered fundamental for achieving a complete formation and a harmonic development of the future citizens.
