Roman Pelopponese I - Gladiator Training

            White marble plaque  probably from the monument of a gladiator contest sponsor. The relief frieze depicts three pairs of gladiators engaged in a training activity. 
To left, two similarly heavily armed gladiators. They have large oval shields, and wear a “subligaculum”, loincloth, with a single band  belt. Their helmets with raised and curved edges doesn't have  crest; a visor with an opening for the eyes protect their face.
The central pair represent two “thraeces” or Thracian gladiators with their typical curved drag.
To right, a “retiarius” with trident and net, training against, probably according to his heavy armature, a “murmillo”.
