Scenery in Monument Valley, AZ - a photo on Flickriver

            Monument Valley is one of the most iconic road trips in the American Southwest. It's been featured in many movies over the years. It is awesome scenery. I've been here several times but this was my wife's first time. We had just finished driving through Valley of the Gods but I wanted Heather to see it. The park is owned by the Navajo Nation; the entrance fee seems to be going up all the time. The drive through Monument Valley is 17 miles long - the road can be real nasty, especially when wet. It is rarely graded and you have to swerve from side to side to miss protruding rocks and big ruts. With the steep admission fees you think some of it would go to road maintenance. Despite all this, it was a nice detour.
