Exterior of Hearst Castle - a photo on Flickriver

            Whenever we travel, my wife likes to checks out places where the rich and famous lived - like mansions, chateaux, castles, and/or palaces. On this trip we decided to check out Hearst Castle near San Simeon, CA. This was a first for both of us. It's really not a castle, it's more like a very opulent mansion in a beautiful setting. We had to go on a guided tour for most of the time there but it was definitely worth it. William Randolph Hearst was an interesting character with curious tastes in decor and statues - there seemed to be a lot of naked women statues from mythology adorning the grounds, along with some beautiful swimming pools (no, we couldn't use them). If you have a chance to visit this place, go for it.
