Wandering around Linderhof Palace, Bavaria, Germany

            On a nice Fall day we decided to check out Linderhof Palace and Ettal Abbey - both are close to Garmisch. Linderhof was built for King Ludwig II (aka the Mad King); the same dude that had Neuschwanstein Castle built. We wanted to get there early before the busloads of tourists arrived. So much for that - we did get there early but the tour buses beat us. To top that off, there was a lot of construction activity going on - big cranes, fenced off areas, and some areas were closed. At Linderhof they run tours spaced about 10 minutes apart so it is zip zip zip through the inside. No photos allowed. On our tour we had a mother that thought her cranky infant child would magically settle down. Ha, that didn't happen. The kid screamed the entire time so we didn't hear anything the guide said. After the tour we walked around the grounds - the Moorish Kiosk was cool - and we had it to ourselves but you can only step inside the door. Bummer. On the way back to Garmisch we stopped at Ettal Abbey. It is huge from the outside and includes several buildings. However, once you step inside the church part that is as far as you can go. I think by this time, Heather and I were churched out and didn't linger long.
