Born : 1877, Nottingham, the Son of James Allen and Sarah Alice Allen nee Latchford.
Brother to : Ellen Allen and Ada Ethel Allen.
Enlisted : 21st September 1914 at Nottingham, aged 37, he had previously served for three years with the Robin Hood Rifles Volunteers, serving with D. Company, 7th (Robin Hoods) Battalion, Sherwood Foresters, Notts. & Derby Regiment serving at home until 27th February 1915, he landed in France on the 28th February 1915, he was Killed In Action less than 2 months later on the 8th April 1915.
Awarded : 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
Died : 8th April 1915, aged 37.
Buried Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery, Kemmel, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

CWGC Reference : 449200.
The Personal Inscription reads “He died that we might live”.
The Inscription on the Family Memorial reads “In loving Memory of James Allen who fell asleep in Jesus June 28th 1886 aged 30 years.
He looked for a City which hath sound foundations whose builder and maker is God.
Also Sarah Alice beloved Wife of the above who fell asleep in Jesus February 23rd 1928 aged 74 years.
Reunited.
Also Pte. JWG Allen, 7th Sherwood Foresters RHR, only Son of the above killed in the War April 8th 1915, aged 37 years.
Interred at Kemmel, Belgium”.

His Father : James Allen a Printer and Compositor was born : Circa 1836 in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, he died on the 28th June 1886 aged only 30.
His Mother, Sarah Alice Allen nee Latchford a Dressmaker was born in Baldock, Hertfordshire, she died on 23rd February 1928, aged 74 and are both buried beneath this Memorial.
According to the 1881 Census the Family were living at: 7. Cairns Street, Nottingham
By the time of the 1891 Census the Widowed Sarah Alice Allen now a Lace Worker and her three Children were living at : 26. Leicester Street, St. Ann’s Well Road,Nottingham and were still at the same address 10 years later.
James William George Allen married Ann Brown in Nottingham in 1904, his Sister, Ellen married George William Robinson in 1909.
At the time of the 1911 Census James and Ann Allen were still living at 26. Leicester Street, St. Ann’s Well Road, Nottingham, his Widowed Mother, Sarah Allen now a Blouse Machinist was living at : 28. St. Christopher’s Street, Sneinton, Nottingham with her Daughter, Ellen Robinson, Son In Law, George Robinson a Leivers Lace Draughtsman and her unmarried Daughter, Ada Ethel Allen a Lace Finisher.
James William George and Ann Allen had a Daughter, Phyllis Emma Allen : Born : 7th January 1912.
James’s Widow, Ann Allen never remarried and died on the 22nd September 1951, at the time of her death she was still living at 26. Leicester Street, St. Ann’s Well Road, Nottingham.
