Aquí podeu veure la monstruosa K-24 comparada amb una càmera "normal" de rodet de 35mm, una Ihagee Exakta Varex, en aquest cas.

La Kodak K-24 és una de les càmeres més inmenses i en certa manera inusual que tinc. De fet, tot i que tota ella és impresionant, la tinc com a element secundari d'una transacció que m'interesava més. En efecte, de dins d'aquesta GEGANTINA càmera militar de reconeixement aeri de la Segona Guerra Mundial en vaig poder obtenir un objectiu Kodak Aero Ektar.

Sobre aquest objectiu del que tant s'ha parlat, ja us comentaré més endavant...

Anem a pams. La Kodak K-24 fou una copia de la molt més antiga i també militar F24, càmera britanica de reconeixement per a la RAF. Aquesta fou introduida el 1925, i serví durant tota la guerra mundial en avions com el Spitfire, Hurricane, Blenheim, Lancaster, Catalina, Liberator etc. Generalment montava, en la seva versió britànica, un Dallmeyer Pentac, i feia fotos de 5x5 polzades (127x127mm).

Ja durant la guerra els americans la copiaren, i Kodak la produí amb el nom K-24, com aquesta que podeu veure aquí. Pesava una mica menys que la original britànica, i equipà generalment bombarders com el B-24, B-17, B-29 o avions de reconeixement com el P-51 Mustang o el Mosquito.

Aquesta K-24 sembla "funcionar" en mode manual, tot i que generalment s'emprava amb motor electric (conecat al propi avió on estava instalada). Al contrari que altres que he vist, aquesta no compta amb cap placa de propietat militar en la càmera mateixa, tot i que sí en el protector del objectiu. Igualment té un numero de referencia pintat i un segell d'acceptació de la USAAF. En tot cas sembla datar del 1944, ja que així ho indica el objectiu, amb el codi Kodak EE (44).

Compared to a "normal" 35mm SLR, like this Ihagee Exakta Varex, the enormous size of the Kodak K-24 speaks for itself...

The Kodak K-24 is one of the most immense and somewhat unusual cameras I have. In fact, although all of it is impressive, I have it as a "collateral damage" of a transaction that interested me most. Indeed, inside of this GIANT aerial recon military camera of WW2, I was able to obtain a famous Kodak Aero Ektar f2.8 7" lens.

On this much talked about lens, I will discuss later ...

The Kodak K-24 was a copy of the much older and also military F24 camera, a British reconnaisance camera made for the RAF. This was introduced in 1925, and served during the entire war in planes like the Spitfire, Hurricane, Blenheim, Lancaster, Catalina, Liberator etc. It generally mounted, in its British version, a Dallmeyer Pentac lens, and took 5x5" pictures.

Already during the war the Americans copied it, and Kodak produced it with the name K-24, like this one that you can see here. Weigh was a little less than the British original, and generally equipped bombers like the B-24, B-17, B-29 or reconnaissance aircraft such as the P-51 Mustang or the De Havilland Mosquito.

This K-24 looks in working condition, at least in manual mode, although it was usually used with an electric motor. Unlike other K24 I have seen, it does not have any military-owned license plate in the camera itself, although it does in the lens wood cone. It also has a painted reference number and a stamp of acceptance from the USAAF. In any case, it seems to date from 1944, as this is indicated by the Kodak EE code (44) in the Aero Ektar lens.
