Striated Pardalote - a photo on Flickriver

Striated Pardalote

            One of four species of Pardalote, this striated Pardalote caught our eye while we rested on a section of the Galleries walk atop Mt Buffalo. 

I will have recorded here previously that Mt Buffalo is one of my favourite locations in Victoria. A day out up here never disappoints. Today we did the usual haunts (the Chalet, Lake Catani, The Cathedral etc) and also had another go at the Galleries circuit. Last year when we tried, we had to turn back part way as we lost the path. This year, we found it and continued. It was whilst resting on a dead tree trunk that we noticed this little character going to and from the nest with sustenance for the young inside.

Very tiny birds, some of whom nest in ground burrows.

A real joy to see!
