Making new friends

            This year I had very low expectations for the sort of outings I normally take for granted when I go visit my family in California.  I knew I'd have a long visit with everyone which would be a blessing but beyond that, low expectations.  Many things would be closed because of the pandemic and the wildfires on the west coast made the air quality so bad that people couldn't even take walks outside.  And then there was the heatwave...

Well, the gods were smiling down on us.  We got to visit the Halloween Boutique at Roger's Gardens, walk on the pier in San Clemente and watch Benni zoom around her beach in Laguna.  Those are always my three favorite destinations and we visited all three.  We also got to go to San Onofre, my dad's favorite surfing beach so I can't tell you how grateful I am for all we got to experience together this last trip.

Here I am on San Clemente pier, one of my favorite places in the world, looking down over the edge at the pigeons below me.  Notice my newly painted toenails.  That's a tradition too!
