Portrait of an Artist and Fresco Painter

Carte de visite by an unidentified photographer. Artist Charles L. Mitchel (about 1820-after 1880), a Prussian-born immigrant, resided in Detroit, Mich., where he advertised his services as a fresco painter in the 1870s.

Pasted to the back of the card stock mount is a paper printed with Mitchel’s name, address, 1867 date, and the complimentary closing, “I remain respectfully.”
