Forest Bug nymphs, Kingmoor Nature Reserve, 6 April 15

I had another look at the fence posts where I'd found seven Forest Bug nymphs just two days ago, but could only find two here this afternoon - despite the fact that conditions were very similar. However, a few more were found about 100m to the north, again on wooden fencing beneath a line of mature Oak trees.

The big surprise though was to find these two nymphs on a sapling about 20m from the trunk of the nearest sizeable tree (an Oak), and 7 - 8m from the edge of the canopy. According to Shieldbugs of Surrey, the nymphs spend the winter high up on the bark of forest trees, and so if this is the case, presumably these must already have travelled quite some distance relative to their diminutive size!
