A very young alert Little Owl keeping an eye out for any trouble as a Green Woodpecker was in the vicinity yaffling away….❤️ Unfortunately the photo opportunity of the two together didn’t arise!

The small often stern but quizzical looking Little Owl was introduced to the UK in the 19th century. It can be seen in the daylight, usually perching on a tree branch, telegraph pole or rock. It will bob its head up and down when alarmed. In flight it has long, rounded wings, rapid wingbeats and flies with a slight undulation. It is also often seen in trees overlooking grassland from where it will swoop to catch small prey with it’s sharp talons.
