Porsche 911 GT1 - 1996

            Motor racing with GT vehicles becomes even more important in the mid-1990s.  With the 911 GT1, Porsche responds to the trend and designs a path-breaking high-tech concept for a racing car that has its racing debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1996.
The GT1 is the first 911 with mid-engine, because the 6-cylinder drive system had been moved to the middle for the first time, bringing additional aerodynamic advantages along with a balanced axle load distribution. The conversion from air to water cooling is also new : it reduces both the thermal load and petrol consumption.
The debut is a success. The 2 new Porsche 911 GT1 vehicles come in second and third place.
