            The anvil.

It does not take much imagination to visualise the fire and hot embers burning in the blacksmiths shop.

You can feel the heat of the fire, smell the burning coals and the sweat of the smithy as he pounds the metal into shape.

There is just a doorway and a small opening, it is really nothing more than a makeshift window of sorts.

The air hangs heavily in the shop.

He wears an old dirty shirt and equally old tattered trousers.

An old leather and fire marked apron which shows the battle scars of the flying embers of hammered steel have penetrated.

His hair is matted and his face is unshaven.

The anvil has outlived the smithy and it will outlive many of his future generations.

For these are his tools of trade, a continually burning fire to heat the steel and his anvil.
