Wednesday Music: Traffic's debut, Mr. Fantasy

Here's an act that should be familiar to many (especially since the title track of the album has apparently shown up in recent films/TV shows). This is another one of those albums where the US version included recent singles that aren't on the UK version, at the expense of a couple tracks from the UK LP. When I bought the LP, this version was unavailable at the time, as the currently-available version in the US was the original UK version. To top that, the mono and stereo versions of both are very different, so there are technically four variations of this album! (Five or six, if you count the fact that the first release of the US version carried a different title.)

For some reason, Traffic are one of those bands I loved in college (both their early psychedelic pop like this, and their later Low Spark of High Heeled Boys fusion-y era ... and of course I could appreciate that particular album title!) and still appreciate, but have little desire to listen to now (see also Jefferson Airplane, the Jam, Camper van Beethoven), for whatever reason. I did get to see Dave Mason and Steve Winwood as solo acts during that time (1986-ish?). Naturally, Steve played "Dear Mr. Fantasy", although Dave did not do "Hole In My Shoe".
